Umag and surroundings

The town of Umag is located in the northern part of Croatia and has been writing its history since ancient times. Thanks to its long history, the city will welcome you with beautiful cultural monuments. The 45 km long coastline is also worth a visit, where you can enjoy magnificent views of the Mediterranean Sea. The city and its surroundings offer several breathtaking attractions, but some of them simply stand out from the crowd and are worth seeing. A bicycle or electric scooter are available as ideal means of transport.

Beaches

Umag and its surroundings offer some of the most beautiful beaches in all of Istria. Laguna Stella Maris Beach is only 3 km from the center of Umag. It is surrounded by pine trees, which provide a refreshing refuge from the hot sun. Access to the sea is very easy and there is also a parasol and sun lounger rental. There are several restaurants in the area and the beach is easily accessible by car, train or even bicycle.
Kataro beach, which includes the freely accessible ruins of the town of Sipar from around 876 AD. The beach is here with a pebble entrance to the sea, where it gradually turns into a sandy subsoil with a pleasant descent suitable for children. Right next to the beach is a beautiful parking in the grass, which can be used to relax on a blanket, whether in the sun or in the shade of trees.
Other famous beaches are Sol Polynesia, Aurora or Kanegra. There is a beach volleyball court or other sports activities in the vicinity of almost every beach.

Savudrijski svjetionik

Savudrija Lighthouse is the oldest active lighthouse on the Adriatic and the northernmost on the Istrian peninsula. It was also the first lighthouse in the world to start shining with coal. The lighthouse is located only 10 km north of the town of Umag. It can be easily reached by car, bicycle, scooter or boat. Although the lighthouse is not completely isolated from the world, there is a calm and mystical atmosphere around it. Legend has it that Count Meternich had the lighthouse built in 1818 for a beautiful Croatian noblewoman, whom he fell in love with at a Viennese ball. However, just before the construction was completed, the noble lady lost her life and the count never visited the place again.

Parenzana

In the past, this road was covered by railways and its purpose was to connect Poreč in Croatia with Trieste in Italy. From 1902 to 1935, the road served as an important link between the two economies. Along this way, mainly olive oil, wine, fruits, vegetables and cereals were transported. The Istrian part of this road passes through charming valleys, hills, vineyards and olive groves stretching around the medieval villages. The railway was exceptional precisely for its beautiful viaducts or tunnels, which were for the time real works of art by architects. The path is suitable for both cycling and hiking.

Park Humagum

Humagum City Park lines the bay, which lies in the heart of Umag. In the park, locals and foreigners like to meet, because everyone will find “their own”. Here you will find various attractions for children, mazes, solar chargers for electronics, running paths, exercise equipment or a 250 m long set of roses, which will enchant you not only with the scent but also with the colors. Everything is completed by a view of a quiet bay, behind which there is nothing but the open sea. If you want to sit with friends, spend time with children, jog or have a good time, you will find the right space in Humagum Park.

Istralandia

Aquapark Istralandia holds the second place in the ranking of the best European aquaparks. There are 23 water slides waiting for you, which together measure over 2 km. You will also find the largest wave pool and the highest water slide in Europe. Aquapark is also known for its diverse accompanying program. Exceptions are not funny brass band concerts, sports events or foam parties. If you want to relax from the water for a while, you have a choice of several restaurants and bars.

Restaurants

You can enjoy a fantastic restaurant with excellent cuisine and pizza baked on stone right under your rooms, see accommodation. But if you want a famous pizza, be sure to check it out to the village of Marija na Krasu, where the Konoba Rustica restaurant is located. The best pizza traditionally made in a wood-fired oven is waiting for you. You can choose from 40 different types. In addition to pizza, you can be amazed by various homemade specialties such as local olive oil, sheep cheese, Istrian prosciutto or homemade pastries and bread. Meat and seafood delicacies are also no exception. In the Zlatna Vala restaurant in the heart of Umag, you can taste traditional delicacies. The restaurant keeps saying that the fish swims three times, in water, in oil and in good wine. That is why you will find the best combinations of seafood and quality local wines here. Meals can also be enjoyed on the spacious terrace overlooking the bay and sea level.
